We partnered up with local (Everett, WA) tape label, Palmer House to create a short run of Limited Edition tapes and they even are translucent pink, which is bad ass. This doesn't come with a tape player, so good luck listening to this in 2024. You might wanna hit up a thrift store for this.

about
Alie: Four or five moves ago, we lived one block off of Aurora Ave. in North Seattle. I used to bus into the Law Firm I worked at everyday, and that was when this song first started. I saw this seemingly content man get off the bus with a cardboard box full of fruit. As he walked to catch his connecting line, we both smiled at each other and I wondered, “where are you going with that fruit”, presuming he might be taking it to his family, or maybe he’s going to make a pie, or maybe he was just on a juice cleanse. But something about this man moved me so much and I’ve never been able to get that scene out of my head. I went home and wrote the piano melody in one sitting, but could never find the right lyrics to fit this song, so it sat for years. Fast forward to what this song is now… Jake writes these incredible lyrics without a melody, we’re falling in love with Blue by Joni Mitchell for the first time, and we glue these two moments together that become, “End Scene”. At the studio, we record full takes back to back, and Nate expertly compiled what feels like a still and held unpolished piece of something so magical. It’s really a testament to how two completely separate people can write music together, and how two completely separate people can exist side by side, never speaking, but communicate so much in a moment on a street. I think you can tell, but it’s almost like the melody, the lyrics and the structural space don’t fit together. But they weren’t forced together. They breathe, touching and moving and replacing and filling and pausing. What I mean is that this song is a perfect, odd existence of so much and so little. I can’t believe we wrote it.
Jake: I wrote this song shortly before Albuquerque. As hard as it is to say, I felt like I was in a place I didn’t belong and I wasn’t quite sure how to act. I tried my best to fit in, play the part, and keep my emotions at arm's length. The line, “I don’t want to hurt, I don’t want to hurt you” is, for me, a summation of the album. The pull between wanting to pursue what I thought was best for me, while not wanting to hurt those that decision would affect. I knew that “when the curtain dropped” it would “fall on me”. I would be hurting friends and family. I would be causing pain. That reality seemed like an impossible dilemma as I penned the words to this song.
lyrics
Emotions are illusive
I swear I felt them once
They are tough to tame and easy to lose
Put them in a song where they can
Live forever and not at all
I never see it coming
The end of the scene
When the curtain drops
It falls on me
And I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt you
I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt you
I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt you
I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt
When the curtain drops
It falls on me
Two nice people talk
I sit and listen
I am there and I am not
Am I in the crowd or on the stage
If I’m acting I don’t know my lines
I never see it coming
The end of the scene
When the curtain drops
It falls on me
And I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt you
I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt you
I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt you
I don’t wanna hurt
I don’t wanna hurt
When the curtain drops
It falls on me
Ooooh

Lost track of these guys for a couple years, then saw the Tiny Desk concert come up in my feed. I've had the album on loop on Spotify since Friday.
This song in particular has been stuck in my head all afternoon. quiksilv26

I love how this album makes me feel. It's like standing in a waterfall of memory, letting the lost moments wash over me. I could let the rushing current take me out to sea. Jaycee
