We partnered up with local (Everett, WA) tape label, Palmer House to create a short run of Limited Edition tapes and they even are translucent pink, which is bad ass. This doesn't come with a tape player, so good luck listening to this in 2024. You might wanna hit up a thrift store for this.

about
Alie: This song BY FAR was the most difficult to complete. The first to get started and the very last to be finished. In the heat of COVID, the chorus lyrics were the first thing I wrote after releasing our last record, “GRAY”. So many people were dying everyday and I started singing, “everyone’s dropping like flies” to a melody that had a skip in the beat, which eventually turned into, “everyone’s closing their eyes”. These phrases are almost synonymous to me, because at the time all I could see and feel was the death around me, but I also was surrounded by a blatant lack of acknowledgement, love and goodness, people intentionally “closing their eyes” to actual fear and sickness…and maybe they had always been. This unraveled my faith in ways I cannot explain, and I’m better for it. In so many ways this song continues to break religious trauma off of me. These lyrics for me are brave and messy and will likely piss some people off. I remember being in a place where these lyrics would have pissed me off. It’s very new to me still to be on this side of things where I’m the “lost one”, the one that “fell off the deep end”. They haven’t asked, but I do not believe God failed me. That isn’t why I left. Those people that were supposed to protect, love, and care for me and others failed me in the name of God. And that’s a tragic collapse of a cancerous and corrupt institution that although isn’t all bad, needs change and accountability, like we all do. I’m in a place after writing this song where I’m finally willing to be misunderstood by those still “on the vine”, but I’m not willing to risk my opportunity to discover the truth.
Jake: Alie and I both grew up in extremely evangelical churches and still had ties to them when we started writing music together. After departing the church some time ago, we hid from anything having to do with religion. We had both personally been burned by the church and had watched some of our closest friends be victims to horrible abuse - both know about and in many cases committed by those in authority. This was a song we had to write more than it was one that we wanted to. It was painful to rummage through memories and try to find words. The lack of accountability in the Church and the ability of leaders and members alike to close their eyes and fixate
lyrics
Steeple oh steeple
Why are your people
Running out the door
I watch myself from the outside
There’s less of me the more I see
Mold and erase me
Still on your throne
Selling what you don’t own
Levied permission
A curtain with holes
Innocence you stole
Whisper or whistle
Building your house on top of the sand
Pray the wind doesn’t blow
Turning your backs raising your hands
Oh god what a show
Everyone’s closing their eyes
Everyone’s closing their eyes
They won’t stop
They won’t stop
You are a mistress
I’m a contortionist
Building and tearing down
Baptize me in the deep end
Dead bodies floating
Fleur-de-li on the wall
It’s the calm before the fall
Lost tracks in the cold snow
You hide in the shadow
Wolf in sheep’s skin
Tell me all of my sin
I don’t know how to say help
Building your house on top the sand
Pray the wind doesn’t blow
Turning your backs raising your hands
Oh god what a show
Everybody’s closing their eyes
Everybody’s closing their eyes
They won’t stop
They won’t stop
They won’t stop
They won’t stop
They won’t stop
They won’t stop
They won’t stop

Lost track of these guys for a couple years, then saw the Tiny Desk concert come up in my feed. I've had the album on loop on Spotify since Friday.
This song in particular has been stuck in my head all afternoon. quiksilv26

I love how this album makes me feel. It's like standing in a waterfall of memory, letting the lost moments wash over me. I could let the rushing current take me out to sea. Jaycee
