about

Alie: I remember I was driving Jake and I home to our house in New Mexico from a hot spring nearby, fresh out of nature and back into the city. With just our voices, we challenged ourselves to finish the lyrics to this song before we got home that day. These lyrics feel like a time-piece - an honest, sometimes satirical, to-the-point splatter of our not-so-pretty struggle with temporal permanence. I used to believe in a very definite and chosen conclusion to our lives that either ended in heaven or hell - my very black and white, narrow path to eternal bliss. I think you can feel that when you listen to this song, and my hope is that you also feel the joy and freedom that comes only from a place of surrender and eventual peace in the unknowing. I’ll note this is also the first song I’ve ever released publicly that’s explicit. I think this will probably tear some people away from me, and it might also make them curious as to why I didn’t stay happy in the molded box I was given to live inside of. This song gets weird on purpose. We started out all-in and had so much fun making a drawn out intro in a ridiculous time signature. When Nate and I were in the studio playing with these chord changes, it felt like a battle with the idea that nothing lasts, and everything lasts. Nature isn’t nice, it’s chaotic and beautiful, and we really enjoyed delving into that part of our creative selves together. We marched up to the very edge of comfort and then, we finally found that relieving, familiar sway with the chorus. Then just when we found margins bobbing our head, we thunderously come back with a reigned in verse that lyrically implies so much angst and curiosity, but with moments of clarity and lightness. To prevent a completely soggy soil, the strings triumphantly rise and breathe into all the pent up emotion in the equally capacious and held outro, giving meaning and then space to process and sift through the upturned rocks and lack of solidity that this song offers.

lyrics

Temporary everything
You get me everytime
I never see you coming
It’s not like I could hide
Move the couch across the room
Just to put it back again
Sometimes I’m too
Critical, Cynical
Lately everything’s
Existential
Monumental
The end of the fucking world

I’m feeling Jaded
I’m feeling Jaded
Thought I’d of made it
By now

Nothing for my energy
I’m still who I used to be
I can’t get back the time
Still can’t make up my mind
I’m comfortable in chaos
But I crave control
Sometimes I’m too
Critical, Cynical
Lately everything’s
Existential
Monumental
The end of the fucking world

I’m feeling Jaded
I’m feeling Jaded
Thought I’d of made it
By now
I’m feeling Jaded
I’m feeling Jaded
I thought I’d of made it
By now

By now
By now
By now

Ohhhh
Mmmm
